Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has expressed strong confidence that the president will significantly increase his vote share in the South-East during the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s current affairs programme on Wednesday night, Bwala projected that Tinubu could secure up to two million votes from the region — a dramatic jump from the 127,370 votes recorded in 2023.
“This is going to be remarkable. Zone by zone, let me start with the South-East: I can guarantee that President Bola Tinubu will get more than four times, maybe even six times, the votes he got in 2023. That’s up to two million votes,” Bwala stated.
When asked about the possibility of Labour Party’s Peter Obi being on the ballot, Bwala dismissed the concern, claiming Obi’s political influence had diminished and that the South-East’s large voting population presented an opportunity for the APC. He further alleged that Obi might not secure a presidential ticket and could instead serve as Director-General for a coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to him, “Whether Peter Obi is a candidate or not, he has lost over 50% of his votes. They were not based on a solid political agenda but on rhetoric and division, and Nigerians are now more aware.”
Bwala also pointed to recent defections of southern governors to the APC and endorsements from opposition governors as factors that would boost Tinubu’s popularity and electoral chances in the South-East come 2027.
