Fayemi Laments Failed Tourism Policies in Nigeria

Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has criticised Nigeria’s inability to sustain tourism projects, saying the country is filled with abandoned initiatives that once showed great promise.

Speaking at the International Tourism Summit 2026 hosted by the Oyo State Government, Fayemi noted that many tourism policies failed because they were tied to political administrations instead of strong institutions that could outlive governments.

According to him, Nigeria’s tourism challenges are not caused by a lack of ideas, but by weak implementation and poor continuity.

“The graveyard of Nigeria’s tourism sector is filled with brilliant ideas that were never properly institutionalised or effectively executed,” he said.
