The Catholic Diocese of Ilorin is mourning the loss of Bishop Emeritus Ayo-Maria Atoyebi OP, who passed away on March 8, 2025, at 12:55 PM. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of the clergy, religious, and lay faithful, who remember him as a devoted shepherd and a beacon of faith.
Bishop Ayo-Maria served as the Bishop of Ilorin from 1992 to 2019, leading the diocese with wisdom, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the gospel. Throughout his tenure, he was a passionate advocate for peace, a father to many, and a leader whose humility and kindness touched countless lives.
In announcing his passing, Most Rev. Anselm Pendo Lawani, the Bishop of the Diocese, expressed gratitude for his life and ministry, stating:
“We give thanks for his life, his ministry, and his unwavering commitment to our Lord and the Church. May he rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us to live out our faith with joy, hope, and charity.”
The funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. The faithful are urged to pray for the repose of his soul and for the consolation of his family and loved ones.
