Catholic Diocese of Ilorin Mourns Bishop Emeritus Ayo-Maria Atoyebi OP

The Catholic Diocese of Ilorin is mourning the loss of Bishop Emeritus Ayo-Maria Atoyebi OP, who passed away on March 8, 2025, at 12:55 PM. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of the clergy, religious, and lay faithful, who remember him as a devoted shepherd and a beacon of faith.

Bishop Ayo-Maria served as the Bishop of Ilorin from 1992 to 2019, leading the diocese with wisdom, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the gospel. Throughout his tenure, he was a passionate advocate for peace, a father to many, and a leader whose humility and kindness touched countless lives.

In announcing his passing, Most Rev. Anselm Pendo Lawani, the Bishop of the Diocese, expressed gratitude for his life and ministry, stating:
