Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has defended his tactical decisions following Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday evening.
Chelle’s 4-4-2 setup saw several players deployed outside their usual positions. Ola Aina, typically a right-back, played at left-back, while winger Ademola Lookman operated centrally, and Samuel Chukwueze was positioned in midfield.
The coach defended these changes, explaining that they were part of a strategic approach to create space and exploit attacking opportunities.
Despite the unconventional placements, Chelle expressed satisfaction with the system’s effectiveness, particularly in the first half.
