FCCPC Summons Air Peace Over Non-refund Of Cancelled Flight Tickets

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has invited Air Peace Limited following a wave of consumer complaints regarding the airline’s failure to refund fares for cancelled flights.

The summon was conveyed through a statement signed by FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, and issued today.

According to the Commission, Air Peace’s actions may be in violation of Sections of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, which guarantees consumers the right to timely refunds when services paid for in advance were not delivered.

FCCPC noted that the law protects Nigerians from “unfair, unjust, or unreasonable practices by service-providers.”

The Commission also directed Air Peace to present a number of documents including a log of all refund-related complaints over the past 12 months, records of processed refunds, a comprehensive list of all cancelled flights within the same period including evidence of any remedial actions taken to reduce consumer hardship resulting from these cancellations.

The Commission warned that failure to comply could result in severe sanctions, including fines and imprisonment.
