The Federal Ministry of Power plans to allocate N8 billion in 2025 to educate Nigerians on the importance of timely electricity bill payments.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, revealed this during the ministry’s budget presentation to the National Assembly joint committee on power on Monday, January 13.
Adelabu explained that the advocacy campaign will utilize social, digital, and print media to ensure widespread awareness. He emphasized that many Nigerians need to understand that the power sector is a national asset requiring collective protection and support.
We are a nation of over 200 million people, so we must leverage all platforms—social media, digital channels, and print media—to drive this advocacy, which is why we have allocated N8 billion,” said Minister Adebayo Adelabu.
Adelabu emphasized the importance of re-educating and re-orienting Nigerians to understand that power assets are national treasures that require collective responsibility.
“Our people need to realize the importance of avoiding power theft, reporting suspicious activities, and paying their electricity bills promptly. These messages must be communicated effectively. The power sector has a critical role in advocacy, re-orientation, and public education to instill these values,” he added.
