In a significant show of support for the Federal Government’s humanitarian efforts, members of the House of Representatives have donated N705 million from their salaries to aid relief initiatives under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, made the announcement on March 17, 2025, during a Ramadan fast-breaking event at the Presidential Villa, attended by President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
According to a statement from the presidency, the donation represents a 50% deduction from lawmakers’ salaries over six months, aimed at assisting the government’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable Nigerians facing economic hardship.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communication emphasized that the gesture reflects the lawmakers’ commitment to addressing pressing social challenges and improving the welfare of citizens across the country.
