The Kwara State Government has again reiterated it readiness to eradicate social irresponsibility, crimes, gender-based violence and juvenile misconducts so as to ensure safety of all Kwara residents.
The readiness of the State Government was made known by the Hon. Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD. during her visitation to juvenile homes and correctional centers at Juvenile Remand Home Oko-Erin, saboline area office, and Olorunda Psychiatric Home, in Ilorin, the State Capital.
The Commissioner gave the assurance of His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on his commitment to ensure the state is safe for all residents through eradication of gender-based violence, social vices, street begging and other criminal offenses.
She said that necessary supports will be given to all the correctional homes to ensure smooth running of the facilities so as to ensure more efficiency in the discharge of their duties.
Hon. Nnafatima added that entrepreneurship will be introduced to the homes to ensure that the children learn a skill so as to be a responsible member of the society upon their release.
She appreciated the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for massive renovation of the homes having been dilapidated and less functional before his assumption of office.
Hon. Mariam took time to properly counsel inmates at the juvenile home to shun social vices, violence and in some cases murder noting that the sky is their limit and they can achieve anything in life if they eschew crimes.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Peter Kayode Ayanwale admonish the children to turn new leaves and become a useful member of the society if they get pardon.
Meanwhile, the Head of homes took turns to appreciate the State Government for its continued support especially in the area of renovation of the facilities and provision of materials for the efficient running of the homes.
They however requested the Government to further support the facilities by going digital in its operation to ensure seamless running of the homes.
