“Monogamy Isn’t for Me” – Ne-Yo Opens Up

American singer and songwriter Ne-Yo has opened up about his personal views on relationships, revealing that monogamy doesn’t align with his beliefs or lifestyle.

In a candid interview on the YouTube show Lemon Drop with Karleen Roy, the 45-year-old artist reflected on his past struggles to fit into societal norms, admitting that he had spent many years pretending to be someone he wasn’t just to meet others’ expectations.

Ne-Yo discussed how societal pressure to commit to a single partner never resonated with him, and how he now embraces a lifestyle that is more in tune with his authentic self.

He made it clear that his views aren’t an attack on marriage or monogamous relationships, but simply a recognition that such arrangements aren’t suited to him personally.

The artist expressed that embracing polyamory has been a freeing experience for him, calling it a “weight lifted off my shoulders.” He explained that shedding the burden of societal expectations has allowed him to fully live his truth.

“I realized I wasn’t living my truth for a very long time. But now, I am—and you can tell. My skin is glowing,” Ne-Yo shared. “Society tells you you’re supposed to be with one person, get married, and stay together forever. I’m not knocking marriage. If that works for you, great. But monogamy? It’s just not for me.”

He continued, “I wasted so much time pretending to be something I wasn’t, trying to fit into a mold that wasn’t mine. Now, I can just be myself and attract the people who align with who I really am. No more pretending. No more lying to make someone else happy. I’m done with that.”

Ne-Yo emphasized that his focus now is on living authentically and finding happiness on his own terms, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the happiness of others.

“Striving for happiness—there’s nothing wrong with that,” he said. “As long as my happiness doesn’t mess with anyone else’s, I’m in the right place. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.”
