The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated banned, expired, and unregistered goods valued at more than ₦1.5 billion during a large-scale enforcement raid at the cosmetics section of the Lagos Trade Fair market.
The operation, spearheaded by Dr. Martins Iluyomade, Director of Investigation & Enforcement, exposed multiple warehouses filled with cosmetics, food products, and other NAFDAC-regulated items without proper registration or date markings. Officials evacuated over a trailer load of such products and intercepted another trailer carrying cosmetics. Although the driver escaped, NAFDAC secured the vehicle and its contents.
According to the agency, the raid is part of its ongoing nationwide campaign against unsafe and counterfeit consumer goods. NAFDAC has called on Nigerians to be alert, avoid unregulated products, and promptly report suspicious items. The agency described this as one of its largest seizures in recent times, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding public health.
