Navy arrests two suspects during raid on pirates’ and kidnappers’ hideout in Bayelsa

The Nigerian Navy (NN), under Operation Delta Sanity II, apprehended two suspects during a raid on a suspected pirates’ and kidnappers’ camp in Fununu, Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

In a statement, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, Director of Naval Information, revealed that the raid, conducted on Saturday, January 11, 2025, aimed to cleanse the nation’s waterways of criminal activities. The operation is part of an ongoing initiative that commenced on December 30, 2024.

“The suspected pirates and kidnappers, who used the camp as a hideout, engaged NN personnel in a gunfight lasting over 30 minutes before succumbing to the Navy’s superior firepower,” said Adams-Aliu. While many suspects escaped with gunshot injuries, two individuals—a man and a woman—were captured.
