Amid rising speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan may be eyeing a political comeback in 2027, his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, has put the rumours to rest with a clear and emphatic rejection of any return to Aso Rock—for either of them.
Speaking at an awards ceremony in Abuja on Saturday, May 9, the former First Lady voiced strong support for First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and pledged to campaign alongside her ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I’m not going back to the Villa. If you call me, I won’t go. Let my friend be there. Let me ‘wahala’ her the way she ‘wahala-ed’ me back then!” she quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.
Her remarks come amid reports that some northern political figures are attempting to draft Jonathan into a possible alliance for the 2027 polls. However, Patience Jonathan doubled down on her commitment to rotational leadership, stressing its importance for national cohesion.
“I believe in turn-by-turn. When it’s your turn, I will support you. When it’s not, step aside so Nigeria can move forward,” she asserted.
Mrs. Jonathan also reminisced about her long-standing friendship with Remi Tinubu, noting their shared journey as spouses of former deputy governors and governors. She expressed loyalty to their bond, saying, “I can’t abandon my friend—whether anyone likes it or not.”
