President Tinubu Celebrates Ademola Lookman and Chiamaka Nnadozie for Historic CAF Awards Wins

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has applauded Ademola Lookman and Chiamaka Nnadozie for their remarkable victories at the 2024 CAF Awards, describing their achievements as a testament to Nigerian excellence and resilience.

At the glamorous ceremony held on Monday night at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco, Lookman was named CAF Men’s Player of the Year, while Super Falcons goalkeeper Nnadozie won Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. Additionally, the Super Falcons claimed the coveted Women’s National Team of the Year award.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, President Tinubu emphasized the significance of these accomplishments for Nigeria’s global image.

“These athletes represent the indomitable Nigerian spirit. They remind the world of our greatness and resilience. Let no one write us off. I am incredibly proud of them,” Tinubu stated.

He further expressed gratitude to the award winners, acknowledging their role in uplifting the country’s image. “Thank you for making Nigeria proud and for keeping our flag flying high. You’ve brought honor to our nation, and I know you will achieve even more in the future,” he added.

Tinubu also highlighted the inspirational impact of these successes, urging young African athletes to pursue their dreams with passion and dedication. “Their discipline and determination demonstrate what is possible for every one of us,” he affirmed.

Lookman’s stellar 2024 season has cemented his place as one of Africa’s finest footballers. The forward netted 27 goals and provided 13 assists across 57 appearances for both club and country. His unforgettable hat-trick in the Europa League final for Atalanta remains a defining moment, earning him further accolades, including a place in the 2023 AFCON Team of the Year.

Similarly, Nnadozie’s outstanding performances for Nigeria and her club, Paris FC, have made her a trailblazer in women’s football. Her achievements reflect hard work, perseverance, and exceptional talent, further elevating the profile of African women in sports.
