Tinubu to Attend Inauguration of Ghana’s President-Elect

President Bola Tinubu has departed Lagos for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

Invited personally by Mahama, the event is set to take place on January 7 in Accra, the capital of Ghana. Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th President from 2011 to 2017, secured a return to power in the December 2024 elections. He will succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo, who has held office since 2017.

Following his electoral victory, Mahama visited Tinubu in December to strengthen ties ahead of his swearing-in.

According to a statement by Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian president will attend the event in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, alongside other African leaders.

Tinubu will be accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and senior government officials.
