Shehu Gabam, National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), hosted a “strategic meeting” at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday, drawing the attendance of notable political figures such as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, ex-aide to the late Sani Abacha, Hamza Al-Mustapha, and other prominent politicians.
The meeting, aimed at laying groundwork for the 2027 elections, was highlighted by Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar campaign organization, on social media. Showunmi shared on Facebook, “In preparation for Nigeria’s 2027 elections, His Excellency Shehu Gabam, SDP Chairman, convened a pivotal meeting with political heavyweights including HE Nasir el-Rufai, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, and myself, Segun Showunmi, aka ‘The Alternative.’ The focus was on assessing the current state of opposition politics and exploring strategies for stronger democratic engagement moving forward.”
Expanding on the gathering in a post on X (formerly Twitter) titled, “You must set forth at dawn!” Showunmi described the meeting as a convergence of influential minds to strengthen Nigeria’s opposition politics. “HE Shehu Gabam brought together HE @elrufai, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, and Otunba Segun Showunmi to review the opposition’s engagement and strategize for the future,” he wrote.
