The Federal Government has rolled out a new National Policy for the Enhancement of Almajiri Education, introducing sweeping reforms to modernise the traditional Qur’anic education system and banning Almajiri schools from sending children out to beg.
Under the policy, pupils will now receive compulsory instruction in literacy, numeracy, digital skills and vocational training alongside their religious education.
Approved by the Federal Ministry of Education, the framework also requires all Almajiri learning centres to be officially registered, mandates biometric enrolment of learners, and provides nationally recognised certificates for graduates. Schools that fail to comply with the new regulations risk penalties, including possible closure.
