Lagos State adds Nollywood actor Baba Ijesha to its official sex offenders register.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed that Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been officially added to the Lagos State S*x Offenders Register after completing his prison term for the sexual assault of a minor.

Baba Ijesha was convicted in 2021 for molesting a 14-year-old girl and subsequently sentenced to prison.

In a statement issued on Saturday, November 17, the Lagos State Government—through the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro—dismissed circulating claims that the Court of Appeal had cleared the actor of wrongdoing.

Pedro condemned the reports as “false, misleading, and irresponsible,” stressing that the conviction remains intact.

Reaffirming the government’s stance in a post shared on X on Sunday, November 16, the DSVA restated that the actor’s name had been entered into the S*x Offenders Register, quoting the Attorney-General to emphasise the accuracy of the information.

“Mr. Olanrewaju James was not exonerated of the offences of sexual assault and the indecent treatment of a child,” Pedro stated, adding that the claims made by actor Yomi Fabiyi were entirely untrue and capable of causing public confusion.

He urged Lagos residents and the general public to disregard the misinformation and warned Fabiyi—and any platform promoting the claim—to stop spreading the false narrative.

According to Section 37 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021, Baba Ijesha’s name has now been officially recorded in the Lagos State S*x Offenders Register—part of ongoing efforts to safeguard minors, promote accountability, and ensure the public has access to accurate information.
