U.S. President Donald Trump was rushed to safety after gunshots were fired during the high-profile White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.
The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton, where a suspected lone gunman attempted to breach security before being quickly subdued by Secret Service agents. One officer was reportedly injured but protected by body armour, while Trump and other top officials were safely evacuated.
Trump described the suspect as a “very sick person” and a “thug” who had attacked the US Constitution. Authorities say the suspect is now in custody, with investigations ongoing into the motive.
