Mali’s Defence Minister, General Sadio Camara, has been killed following a wave of coordinated attacks by jihadist and separatist groups, marking one of the most serious escalations of violence in the West African country in recent years.
According to government officials and multiple international reports, the minister died after a suicide car bomb targeted his residence in Kati, a military stronghold near the capital, Bamako. The explosion was followed by intense gunfire, underscoring the scale and precision of the assault.
The Malian government has declared a period of national mourning, while a curfew has been imposed in Bamako amid fears of further attacks. International bodies, including the United Nations and ECOWAS, have strongly condemned the violence and called for a unified regional response to the growing insecurity.
