STAKEHOLDERS VALIDATE TEACHERS’ SKILLS GAP REPORT IN KWARA

Stakeholders in Kwara State have validated a Skills Gap Analysis Report on teachers, developed by the EIDO Foundation, highlighting critical gaps in digital skills and access to training.

The meeting featured presentations from EIDO’s Administrative Manager, Ann Ene Agbo, and Research Consultant, Olusegun Medupin, who disclosed that the study, conducted across secondary schools, identified digital competence as the most pressing gap, alongside a high demand for training and structural challenges affecting teachers’ performance.

Contributions were made by representatives of the Kwara State Ministry of Education, represented by Odedeji Matthew Taiye; BudgIT, represented by Oluwayemisi Fagboro; Connected Development, represented by Lawal Babatunde; ANCOPSS, represented by Mohammed Saliu; the Well-being Foundation, represented by Kehinde Akintola; the Media Advocacy and Technologies Centre, represented by Musa Aliyu; and the Conscientious Youth Empowerment Foundation, represented by Betty Idowu.

Stakeholders offered key inputs on the findings, with calls for training that moves beyond theory to practical classroom application. Questions were also raised on teachers’ prior ICT exposure, gender participation in the survey, and how proposed interventions would be implemented and monitored. Participants further stressed the need for NGOs to support government efforts through the provision of instructional materials, while emphasizing stronger collaboration with agencies such as SUBEB and TESCOM.

The meeting ended with a collective call for coordinated action to address identified gaps and improve the quality of education across Kwara State, with closing remarks delivered by EIDO Board Member Representative, Bukola Adedayo.
