Members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Kwara State Wing, on Tuesday, June 2,2026 staged a peaceful solidarity march through the streets of Ilorin to protest the rising wave of abductions and insecurity across Nigeria.
The teachers, who turned out in large numbers, called on the government to take urgent action to protect students, teachers, and communities nationwide.
Speaking with UrbanPop Radio, the Deputy Secretary-General of the NUT, Comrade Mike Modesty Ituah, described the situation as devastating for the victims, their families, and the nation. He called for the immediate release of all abducted teachers and students and improved security across the country.

According to him, “All hands must be on deck to find a solution to the problem.”
Also speaking at the rally, the Kwara State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Women Teachers (NUWT), Comrade Ibrahim Bolanle Hauwa, urged government authorities to intervene swiftly and prioritize the safety of children and educators. She noted that growing insecurity continues to disrupt learning and create fear among parents, students, and teachers.
The protesters maintained that beyond rescue efforts, there is a need for lasting solutions to the country’s security challenges. The rally ended with a collective call for government, security agencies, and citizens to work together to ensure that schools remain safe spaces for learning.
